Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) are antidepressants prescribed for the treatment of depression, anxiety and pain. TCA are particularly dangerous in overdoses, with a high risk of mortality. Amitriptyline and nortriptyline are widely prescribed TCAs in the UK.
