Complex Reference Range:Only of value as a check of compliance, and possibly to investigate patients who metabolize the drug at an abnormal rate, particularly for patients with severe asthma.
PREDNISOLONE ABSORPTION/METABOLISM TEST.
ENSURE PATIENT DOESN'T TAKE MORNING DOSE OF PREDNISOLONE.
Procedure:
• Collect blood for baseline measurement into serum gel tube at approximately 8.30am and label “Pre-Prednisolone – 8.30am
• Administer standardised dose (0.5mg/kg) of Prednisolone, under direct supervision of medical staff, at 8.30 am.
• Collect samples of blood into serum gel tube at 9.00am, 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00noon, ensure time is on tube.

Collection Conditions / Other Information:LAB INSTRUCTIONS: Separate into aliquot tube. Sample times MUST be written onto each tube. Store at 4°C. Send at ambient temperature. Mark FAO Joanne Duffy.
