Alias or Abbreviation:P3NP or PIIINP

Pathology Laboratory:Clinical Chemistry/ Biochemistry

Requestable Seperately?Yes

Units:ug/L

Minimum Sample Volume:1 mL

Expected Turnaround Time:7-10 working days

Test Code:P3NP

Sample Type:

Serum Gel Tube (Gold top)

Maximum Add on Time:N/A

Complex Reference Range:≤8.1 Results within reference range. Monitor P3NP 2-3 monthly during methotrexate treatment.
8.2 – 14 P3NP >8.1ug/L on 3 separate occasions in a 12 month period requires further investigation and assessment. (See BSR/BHPR guidelines.
14.1 - 17.9 P3NP >14.0 ug/L on 2 separate occasions in a 12 month period requires further investigation and assessment. (See BSR/BHPR guidelines).
>17.9 The withdrawal of methotrexate should be considered when P3NP is >17.9 ug/L on 3 separate occasions in a 12 month period.
(See BSR/BHPR guidelines)P3NP 6
P3NP measured by Siemens immunoassay. New therapeutic thresholds based on radioimmunoassy action limits.
- The decision whether to perform liver biopsy, withdraw or continue treatment despite raised P3NP must also take into account other factors such as patient age, disease severity, and the ease with which alternative therapies may be used in place of methotrexate (see BSR/BHPR guidelines).
P3NP7
- Increased extra-hepatic collagen turnover (e.g. active erosive arthritis or bone fractures) may cause raised P3NP.
