Pleural Fluid protein >35 g/L indicates exudate.
If serum protein is abnormal or pleural fluid protein 25-35 g/L:
Using Light's criteria an exudate is indicated if pleural fluid protein to :serum total protein ratio >0.5; or fluid LDH to serum LDH ratio >0.6; or pleural fluid LDH >2/3 upper limit of normal for serum LDH.
