Complex Reference Range:Refer to troponin I protocol/ discuss with the duty biochemist.
Interpretation: Provided the protocol is correctly followed, appropriate interpretative comments will be added to troponin I results based on the 'Management of suspected cardiac chest pain in the Emergency Department' guideline.
Collection Conditions / Other Information:Two samples must be collected at time 0h (usually on admission) and either 1 or 3 hours later.
There is no need for a second sample if first sample troponin I is <5ng/L (acute MI unlikely) or ≥64 ng/L (consistent with Myocardial Infarction), assuming the sample has been taken 3 or more hours after the onset of chest pain.
