BCPS comprises the four pathology laboratories in the Black Country as follows: The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust We provide the pathology services for our acute hospitals  and also local GPs. Some of our laboratories also offer specialist services to the wider NHS and also work on research studies.

As part of a major initiative in the NHS, Pathology in England is being reorganised into much

larger local network models. This is driven by NHSI and sees the formation of 29 pathology units

across the country. For us, we will be an even more attractive place to work. It will also enable us

to continue to offer the latest tests and services applying cutting edge clinical science to modern

patient care.

No immediate changes to services

Changes being taken forward are long term with a ten year business model being taken forward. In due course our current laboratories will move to a ‘hub and spoke’ model. This will see a large centralised laboratory at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. At Dudley, Walsall and Smethwick smaller laboratories will continue to offer acute hospital pathology.
