Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA)Collection Conditions / Other Information:FNA kits available from histology reception. FNA must only be performed by experienced clinicians with appropriate back up services. Samples may be from all body sites. Place one drop of sample fluid onto a slide and spread it evenly across the slide with another slide using 1 even stroke. Excess fluid can be rinsed into cytospin (green Shanfix) fluid. Ensure all slide preparations are air dried or fixed appropriately and are labelled as such along with patient identity before placing into slide carrier. Send to laboratory with a completed histology/cytology request form containing patient details, ward, clinical details, requesting clinician and bleep number. Send sample and form to laboratory as soon as possible or refrigerate until possible.
