Test Category: Specialist BiochemistryToxicology
Investigation Name:Lamotrigine

Alias or Abbreviation:LAMO/LAMOT
Accreditation:UKAS Accredited ISO15189:2022, on scope
Intro:
Lamotrigine is primarily prescribed for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. The risk of lamotrigine toxicity is low but toxicity can trigger severe skin reactions including Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) or toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), which can be fatal.Measurement of serum lamotrigine is useful for monitoring adherence, ensuring therapeutic efficacy and prevention of toxicity. In addition changes in pharmacokinetics during pregnancy can affect drug concentrations.
