Complex Reference Range:Interpretation depends on potassium intake/ loss and serum potassium. In the investigation of hypokalaemia, IN NORMALLY HYDRATED PATIENTS, urine potassium <20 mmol/L means that renal loss of potassium is unlikely to be the cause whereas urine potassium >30 mmol/L means that renal loss of potassium is likely to be the cause.
