New ICE notification for Minimum Retesting Intervals (MRI)
We are introducing a new notification in ICE to make you aware when a test that you are requesting is subject to a Minimum Retesting Interval (MRI). This follows feedback from ICE users that it would be helpful to know about an MRI at the point of requesting rather than finding out later that a result is unavailable due to an MRI intervention.
What will happen?
If you request a test within its MRI period, a pop-up will appear in ICE showing the date of the previous request. Where previous results are available, you can click on the View Previous Results icon to view them.
Example view of pop-up in ICE (left), Dudley ICE (right).
This allows you to see when the last test was requested, review any previous results, and consider whether it is appropriate to repeat the test now or at a later date.
This alert does not prevent you from requesting the test.
A few points to note:
- If more than one test has an MRI, a pop-up will appear for each.
- The notification will apply to both primary and secondary care ICE systems but will appear slightly differently in Dudley ICE8.
- If there are any existing exceptions to the MRI, the box will still appear.
- At implementation, the pop-up will appear only for: B12, folate, HbA1c, NT-ProBNP, and Immunoglobulins, with plans to roll out to further tests in the future.
We hope that this process makes it easier for you to see that an MRI intervention applies at the point of request and helps with viewing previous results. We recognise that there may be occasions where it is necessary to override an MRI intervention.
